Denim for Days

So apparently doubling up on denim is trendy now. I'm so not into it. Denim overload is never a good thing. It just looks heavy and unbalanced. Unless of course you're this lady where denim is the only material in her outfit however her outfit is minimal to say the least. I have yet to find an example of this layering of denim that I like. Hopefully some style innovator will prove me wrong!

Oscars

Although I missed watching the Oscars this year, I definitely checked out the dresses! Surprisingly enough, my favourite of the night was Miley Cyrus. She looked elegant and classy, ditching the old ways of Hannah Montana.

Fusion

There is an annual fashion show happening this weekend, which is a competition between freshmen and sophomores at Parsons and the Fashion Institute. I am going to the last show tonight where the judges will be! My friend Ashley made it into the competition and her clothes look great! I can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with and who will win! I am also excited to get all dressed up for it!

Aldo

If you haven't seen Aldo's new ads with Jessica Stam yet, google it right now. They are so fun and styled great!

Thoughts

Today I was looking at one of my favourite fashion blogs while my friend was here. He was saying how the models weren't even really wearing clothes. Fashion is all about clothes right? Not always I guess; it's about the art. Fashion photographs don't always have clothes in them but they are still fashion photos. It's about the clothes sometimes, but often its just about everything else. I think that's one of the beauties of fashion; it is art so there are no rules.

Nice To Meet You!

Hello! My name is Hannah and it's very nice to meet you. I've decided to call myself the fashion rookie because I recently moved to New York to study fashion at Parsons the New School for Design. I'm trying to figure out this industry and the city and I thought it would be fun to let others know how it turns out to be. Besides school, I am interning at a showroom. They represent different designers and the company talks with buyers about the different collections. Since moving to New York last August, I have already learned so much. For one, I realized the career path that I truly want to go down. I originally thought I wanted to go into fashion design but I have come to appreciate the beauty of the business side of the industry. Parsons is the perfect place for me because they offer a variety of classes that allow me to learn the business side through a design point of view while continuing to pursue my creative side. New York also plays a key role because it holds endless opportunities. Thanks for reading my blog...I'll keep you posted about being a fashion rookie!
